iPhone 18 Pro: what is expected at Apples September 9 launch

Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at an event on September 9, according to widely circulated leaks. The two models are tipped to keep the familiar 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes of their predecessors and an aluminium frame, though leaked dummy units suggest a slightly reworked camera plateau and a marginally thicker body to fit larger batteries and a new cooling system.

Camera and chip upgrades

The biggest changes could be under the hood. Apple is reportedly testing a variable-aperture main camera that would give users more control over light and depth of field, along with a larger-aperture telephoto lens and a new stacked image sensor. Powering the phones could be Apples next-generation A20 chip, built on TSMCs 2nm process and said to be up to 18 per cent faster and 30 per cent more efficient than the current A19.

Bigger battery, possible satellite features

Battery capacity is expected to grow, with the US version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max tipped to carry a 5,567mAh cell, up from 5,088mAh on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A new C2 modem could also bring satellite connectivity for select apps when cellular networks are unavailable, though this remains unconfirmed.

India pricing likely to rise

Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro could start at around Rs 1,39,900 in India, up from Rs 1,34,900 for the iPhone 17 Pro, with a 256GB variant estimated near Rs 1,44,900. The Pro Max is expected to start between Rs 1,54,900 and Rs 1,59,900. Following Apples usual pattern, pre-orders would likely open later that week, with phones reaching customers around mid-to-late September.
