Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations from Prahlad Nagar Garden in Ahmedabad on June 21, 2025. The event saw hundreds of citizens coming together for a mass yoga session, reinforcing the spirit of unity and wellness. He was accompanied by Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, MLA Amit Thaker, and senior BJP leaders.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Amit Shah wrote:
“Yoga has been an integral part of the Indian tradition of a healthy and fit lifestyle for centuries. Regular practice of yoga makes the body, mind and thoughts free from disorders and transmits positive energy. Under the leadership of Modi ji, India’s invaluable heritage ‘Yoga’ has been adopted by the entire world. On the occasion of ‘International Day of Yoga’, I give everyone my best wishes and appeal to make yoga a part of daily life.”
The event in Ahmedabad was part of the ‘Yoga Sangam’ initiative by the Ministry of Ayush, which aims to boost public participation and promote yoga as a path to holistic health. Thousands of similar sessions were conducted simultaneously across India.
Adding a global dimension, Indian communities and local residents in countries around the world also observed the day with large-scale yoga events — highlighting how this ancient Indian practice continues to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who led the main celebration from Visakhapatnam, described yoga as “the pause button that humanity needs to breathe, balance, and become whole again.” He further emphasised its global impact, stating, “Be it the steps of the Sydney Opera House, the peaks of Everest, or the expanse of the ocean. The message everywhere is the same – Yoga belongs to all and is for all.”
The 2025 theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, perfectly reflects India’s vision of personal well-being aligned with environmental harmony — making yoga not just a personal choice, but a global responsibility.
